 M98's and 98 clones was pretty much all dad worked on and/or built. After he died, I found 5 m98 actions and rifles in various stage of completion. This is one of those with a new barrel.

Ok. Sometime back I posted that when I cleaned up dads shop last year, I found 5 M98/clone actions. Two still bearing Waffen proof marks. One Turkish small ring, one Czech made BRNO Vz24 and one with all makers marks polished off. I posted a couple of ideas about calibers etc to a hand loading forum I visit and left it there.
So a couple months ago my 16 y/o daughter says she wants to go with me and shoot prairie dogs next year. I asked her repeatedly on different days just to make sure she was committed. She affirmed her request several times. So I dig through all the parts and pieces. There is one complete .30-06 and all it needs is a stock. That one is out. I find another heavy barrel looks like the barrel is shot out, and the action is in good shape. The trigger guard and bottom metal need some TLC.    In my stash of parts I found a new in package M98 Timney trigger. So I think we are ready to send off for a new .22-250 barrel.
Haven't decided what kind of stock.   She likes thumbhole stocks, so I'm sure it will be a crazy color thumbhole. :-)

TRIGGER UPGRADES!

Ok.  I know that I am not a gun smith.  So not claim to be one!  I can replace parts as long as there are not too many little springs and stuff like that.

My new Rifle Basix SAV-2 trigger was delivered and it was pretty easy to install.  It did require some fitting but that was over pretty quick.

The thing is, I am having a devil of a time getting this thing to adjust so it won't slam fire.  

I know I am a novice, but come on!  Every time I think it is finished, something changes!

I will keep going along until I give up or get it right!

Getting Ready for the Upcoming Trip

Well it is time to get ready for the next trip to Q Creek Ranch.  Deposit paid and ticket reserved.

Awesome Trip to Q Creek Ranch

Wow all I can say is that our vacation out to Mills Wyoming was AWESOME!  We were guided by the great folks at Q Creek Ranch.  We shot prairie dogs for 3 days and went fly fishing for one.  All I can say is that the trip was far more rewarding than I had expected.

The longest shot I made on P-Dogs was 505 yards with my dads Mauser 98 in .22-250

The longest shot of the trip was recorded as 621 by our buddy and resident gunsmith Danny Robbins

I met three new friends ranging in age from 38 to 71.  They were all great guys!

The guides were awesome. Thanks Tad, Chad and Travis for a great time!

Practice, practice, practice

We shot some rounds down range yesterday afternoon.  I wanted to shoot for two reasons:

1.  See how the other men handles their guns safety wise.

2.  Get to know the other men going shooting with us.   There are 5 of us going.  I only know one of them well.  So it was good to see how everyone is, and how they interact.  I'd say that we are going to get along just fine.

Oh yeah, we had fun shooting too!

Almost Ready

Needing to practice shooting the two rifles I am taking to Q Creek Ranch, so I went to the local 25 yard range to play around.  They work great same jagged hole for 10 rounds.  Looking so forward to going on a vacation this year.  I wish my dad was still up for the trip, I would have gladly paid his way if he would have agreed to come.

 I am hoping my nephew can go with us next year.
